The most important thing you can do right now is write your government representative. Here is a sample letter and some links to find the name and other information for your local representatives. Please act now and write before the government misappropriates the billions of dollars it is currently planning on spending to fix the economy. (For local offices, please consult the Contacting the Congress website (http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/index.html) or your local phone book.) e-mail addresses are also provided to make contacting you representative easier. Please register and check the "Contacted Congressman" check box after contacting your representative.
SAMPLE FORMAT FOR SOLAR LETTER TO CONGRESS
Date
The Honorable [Senator Full Name] OR The Honorable [Representative Full Name] U.S. Senate U.S. House of Representatives Washington, DC 20510 Washington, DC 20515
Dear [Senator Last Name]: OR Dear [Representative Last Name]:
Introduce yourself briefly and identify the topic of solar energy. You can use some of the wording here for the issues but you need to make your letter personal also.
For example: My name is Jane/John Doe and I am a constituent and a construction worker in Pleasanton, USA. I am writing today to express my interest in seeing the government take a more active role in the implementation of solar energy solutions. I, with a growing number of your constituents, believe that the current plan of assistance by way of tax credits will never provide affordable solar energy, nor will entrusting renewable energy in the hands of large energy providers. Instead residential solar system units need to be built in an economy of scale (millions of units) so as to significantly drop the price and allow an overall energy savings for the homeowner as well as providing the benefits below:
In order to implement solar units on millions of homes the government will be needed to:
Our country needs a “residential solar freedom act” (http://www.residentialsolarfreedomact.org) a form of energy independence that is new, vital and pervasive.
Ask for a response. Urge the legislator to introduce or support the specific piece of legislation outlined here. Request (in a nice way) a reply to your letter. Close by thanking him/her for their consideration. Make sure you include your name, address and contact information.
Sincerely,
John (Jane) Doe 123 Main Street Anytown, USA 12345-6789 Daytime phone: (123) 456-7890, Email address: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it |
